Forest Painting

This is my first attempt at reacting to the west coast rain forest. While this area is not as wet as other parts of the coast it does have stands of old growth Sitka Spruce and massive amounts of foliage. The challenge for me as I see it is to translate the sense of warmth and energy that I feel from this land even though there is a predominance of green which reads as cool. Walking over eons of needles and semi exposed root systems I feel a heat sink larger than I felt in the thin forests of the semi-arid deserts where I have spent so many years. The is energy bursting forth everywhere so how to express those sensations with paint. I will begin with a strong Terra Rosa value design. This is a very warm and transparent paint that I will begin to build on. Stay tuned, here is my start.
